The TCRFC Map Maintenance Plan was developed through a
collaborative effort among members of the TCRFC Technical Committee, TCRFC Map
Maintenance Subcommittee, and LCRA staff. The Map Maintenance Plan follows
these objectives: 1) Embodies the TCRFC mission for basinwide mapping; 2)
Actively monitors and reports on LOMC activity; 3) Supports local community
compliance with 44 CFR Part 65 notification requirements; 4) Includes benefits
under the Community Rating System (CRS) to lower flood insurance premiums for
policyholders in participating communities. This website will facilitate
maintenance of up-to-date Digital Floodplain Insurance Rate Maps (DFIRMS) and
other basinwide mapping needs for TCRFC members and the public.
There are three main elements of this system, the Text Based Search, the
Interactive Basinwide Map, and the Input Page. The text based search allows
users to search for uploaded maps and documents based on keywords in specific
fields. The Interactive Basinwide Map is an online geographic information
system with basinwide data. Future DFIRMS will be available on this site as
they become available. The third main element of this system, the Input Page,
allows users to enter map change data which will be uploaded to the Interactive
Basin Wide map and added to the system database.
Up-to-date flood hazard maps provide critical guidance in the prevention and
reduction of flood damage. The TCRFC and LCRA rely on accurate floodplain maps
and models for flood forecasting and operations decision-making. Digital flood
data can quickly become outdated in rapidly urbanizing watersheds if they are
not maintained. Just as local governments can benefit by knowing about
development upstream, LCRA can better maintain models and manage flood events
with more complete information.
